Tokyo Olympics: Johnson '17 and U.S. Use Strong Second Half To Take Down China

TOKYO – Ashleigh Johnson '17 and the United States women's water polo team got an early challenge from China before earning a 12-7 victory on Monday morning.
China scored on consecutive power play opportunities to take a 2-1 and 3-2 advantage in the first frame. The Chinese held a two-goal lead before the United States rallied, tying the game at 4-all after eight minutes.
The two teams exchanged goals in the second frame, setting the contest at 6-all at the intermission.
The U.S. scored three times in the third quarter and pitched a shutout, taking a 9-6 lead into the final stanza.
China could not make a final push in the fourth as the United States registered the win. The Chinese scored one time over the final 16:16 as Johnson corralled seven saves in the victory.
Johnson and the United States takes on Hungary on Wednesday morning at 1 a.m.
