Women's Basketball Announces 2021-22 Season
September 13, 2021 | Women's Basketball
PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Women's Basketball Team has released its 2021-22 schedule, head coach Carla Berube has announced.
Â
The Tigers' non-conference portion of the 2021-22 season will feature six postseason squads highlighted by Texas, a 2021 Elite Eight participant, coming to Jadwin on Dec. 22.
Â
The 2021-22 season gets underway on Nov. 10 with a trip to Villanova. The Wildcats went 17-7 in last year and reached the WNIT quarterfinals. Princeton's next opponent, Delaware, (Nov. 12) had its best campaign since 2012-13, winning 24 contests and getting to the WNIT semifinals.
Â
Berube's unit's home opener will welcome Boston University on Nov. 14. The Tigers head on the road for battles against Rhode Island (Nov. 20) and Temple (Nov. 23). Princeton takes on Maine (Nov. 28) to finish November before two road games at Florida Gulf Coast (Dec. 1) and Fordham. Florida Gulf Coast won the ASUN title, qualifying for the NCAA Tournament while Fordham secured a spot in the WNIT.
Â
A crucial stretch of the schedule is the five-game home stand that starts with Seton Hall (Dec. 11). Buffalo (Dec. 14) follows before the matchup vs. Texas. The Longhorns and Tigers have never faced off and will be the most high-profiled opponent to come to Jadwin since No. 6 Rutgers in December of 2007. NCAA qualifier UCF completes the 2021 portion of the schedule (Dec. 29).
Â
Ivy League competition has a new format starting in 2021-22.This represents the first season that conference play will be over the course of 10 weeks schedule rather than the traditional eight-week slate. The new format continues to prioritize and balance the time needed for student-athletes to succeed both in the classroom and on the court.
Â
Under the new structure, there will be six one-opponent weekends and three of the league's signature back-to-back weekends during conference play. Each team will also have a contest on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. League play will begin on the weekend of December 31, 2021 and conclude with a single-game weekend against each institution's travel partner.Â
Â
Princeton begins Ivy action vs. Harvard (Jan. 2). The first Ivy doubleheader weekend is at Columbia (Jan. 7) and Cornell (Jan. 8). The non-conference part of the season wraps up vs. Towson (Jan. 12). The Tigers head back on the road at Brown (Jan. 15) and Penn (Jan. 17). The next weekend features vs. Dartmouth (Jan. 22) before a battle at Yale (Jan. 29). Cornell (Feb. 4) and Columbia (Feb. 5) come to Jadwin before the Tigers head to Dartmouth (Feb. 12). Another Ivy doubleheader has Brown (Feb. 18) and Yale (Feb. 19) going to Princeton. The Tigers finish the regular season at Harvard (Feb. 26) and at home vs. Penn (Mar. 5).
Â
Ivy Madness, which will feature the top four teams on both the men's and women's side, is slated for March 11-13. The men's and women's tournament champions will each earn automatic berths to the NCAA tournament.Â
