Strong Defense and Balanced Scoring Help Women's Basketball Race By Brown, 72-39

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Princeton Tigers used a strong defense and balanced scoring attack in a 72-39 victory over the Brown Bears at the Pizzitola Center on Saturday afternoon.

Four players scored 12 points each in Ellie Mitchell, Julia Cunningham, Abby Meyers and Kaitlyn Chen. Mitchell posted her fifth career double-double as she snagged 11 rebounds in the victory.

Princeton scored the first 12 points and led by as many as 17 before taking a 24-8 lead into the second quarter. Mitchell went 6-of-6 from the floor, recording all 12 of her points in that stretch and added six caroms. Brown closed the gap to 12 in the second stanza but trailed 34-18 at halftime.

Cunningham put up a 12-point quarter as the second half got underway, knocking down five shots along with two treys. Princeton pushed its advantage to 27, 54-27, after 30 minutes and finished with a 33-point victory.

Meyers had a team-best +31 in 24 minutes of game action. Chet Nweke was perfect, going 4-for-4, with a season-best nine points. Maddie Plank has six rebounds in the win. The Tigers scored 29 points off 21 Bears' turnovers and registered 42 points in the pain. It's the fourth game this season that Princeton did not trail at all.

Head coach Carla Berube's squad is now 11-4 on the campaign and 3-0 in the Ivy League. The Tigers complete the weekend with a Monday matinee at the Palestra against Penn (2 p.m.).
