Elise Wong To Play For Canada In Pan Am Cup
January 16, 2022 | Field Hockey
Elise Wong was a first-team All-American as a Princeton field hockey player. Since then, her time on the field has been all about Canada.
A 2018 Princeton grad, Wong has made 26 appearances to date with the Canadian national team. She'll be adding to that total this coming week, when she again represents Team Canada, this time at the Pan American Cup in Santiago, Chile.
Wong will be on a rival team from two other Princeton field hockey players, Julianna Tornetta and Beth Yeager, who will play for the United States. The event begins Wednesday.
Both the U.S. and Canada are in Pool B of the seven-team event. The Princetonians will face each other Friday, in the second game of the round-robin stage. The tournament ends with the championship game Jan. 30, and the top three teams will advance to the Field Hockey Women's World Cup this coming July in Spain and the Netherlands.
Wong, who started every game Princeton played during her four years, earned first-team All-American honors in 2018, her senior year, when she was also the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year while helping the Tigers to the NCAA Final Four. She was a two-time first-team All-Ivy League pick and four-time All-Ivy selection, and she was also twice named to the NCAA Final Four All-Tournament team.
