McQuigge Named to WHCA Goalie of the Year Watch List
January 22, 2022 | Women's Ice Hockey
Princeton senior Rachel McQuigge has held opponents to a 1.60 goals-against average and has stopped 94.8 percent of their shots on goal this season, and her success has gained the notice of the Women's Hockey Commissioners Association, which has named her to its watch list for its Goalie of the Year award.
McQuigge is one of 19 netminders on the list, one of six from the ECAC and one of two Ivy Leaguers included.
Heading into Friday night's game against Harvard, McQuigge stood fourth in the nation in save percentage, then at .947, and 12th in goals-against average, then at 1.64. McQuigge improved on both on Friday night, allowing only one goal and stopping 25 of 26 shots on goal.
McQuigge is close to Princeton's all-time record for season save percentage, held by former teammate Stephanie Neatby '20 at .950, standing at .948. McQuigge already holds the program record for lowest GAA, at 1.50 from the 2019-20 season, and stands at 1.60 this season, which would give her two of the top four season GAAs in program history among regular starters. The program's career GAA record is 1.70, held by Roxanne Gaudiel '06, with McQuigge also at 1.70 for her career, and McQuigge's career save percentage of .936 would eclipse Neatby's program record of .933. McQuigge is also eighth on Princeton's career save list, at 1,168.
