Women's Hockey Team Tops LIU in Return from Holiday Break
January 03, 2022 | Women's Ice Hockey
A first-period goal from Mia Coene and a shutout from Rachel McQuigge in goal helped deliver the Princeton women's hockey team a 1-0 win over Long Island on Monday at Baker Rink in the Tigers' first game back from the holiday break,
Princeton will return to ECAC Hockey play on Friday against Clarkson at 3 p.m. at Baker Rink as the start of a two-match weekend with St. Lawrence visiting on Saturday.
Princeton outshot LIU 39-12 on goal and 81-22 overall in the win.
Coene's goal came with seven-plus minutes to go in the opening period after Ellie Marcovsky picked up a loose puck in Princeton's defensive zone and had a 2-on-1 with Coene up the ice, sending it across before Coene fired it in from the slot.
The goal gave Coene a point in four straight games, and it moved her into a tie for second on the team in both goals (three) and points (eight) with Annie Kuehl. Marcovsky's assist gave her points in back-to-back games and was her third helper of the season.
McQuigge's shutout was her third of the season, and the 12 saves moved her into eighth place on Princeton's career saves list with 1,087, one ahead of Kari Rosenkranz '92 (1,086). Elizabeth Hill '96 is seventh, at 1,273 saves.
