No. 9 Clarkson Scores Late to Hold Off Princeton
January 07, 2022 | Women's Ice Hockey
Annie Kuehl got the scoring going in the second period of Friday's ECAC Hockey League game against ninth-ranked Clarkson at Baker Rink, but the Golden Knights answered and held off the Tigers for a 3-1 win.
Princeton is scheduled to return to play on Friday, Jan. 14 at Union. The Tigers' scheduled game for Saturday, Jan. 8 against St. Lawrence has been postponed with a makeup date to be determined.
Kuehl's goal just before the midpoint of the second period came after Kate Monihan put a shot on goal from inside the blue line, Ellie Marcovsky poked it away from Clarkson players looking to clear, and Kuehl skated in and sent the puck away from a Clarkson blade and into the net for the 1-0 Princeton lead.
That Princeton advantage stayed for just less than four minutes until Haley Winn threaded one through for Clarkson with seven-plus minutes left in the middle period.
Breaking the 1-1 tie that persisted into the third period, Clarkson's Gabrielle David scored from the slot to put the Golden Knights in front, and Brooke McQuigge, with sister and Princeton netminder Rachel McQuigge off for the extra attacker, scored an empty-netter from the Princeton attacking end.
