October 14, 2022 | Women's Cross Country
The Princeton Women's Cross-Country team had a busy day of competition between racing at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational in Madison, Wisconsin and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship held in the Bronx, New York.
Starting with the Tigers who competed in Madison, the team was within a strong, nationally ranked field, including 23 programs inside the Top-30. No. 1 N.C. State, No. 2 New Mexico, No. 4 Northern Arizona, No. 5 BYU, No. 8 Stanford, and No. 9 Washington were all teams present in Madison.
Princeton proved that they belong among the best, having two Tigers place within the Top-100 of 263 runners in the Women's 6K Championship race.
Abby Loveys finished in 34th with a time of 20:23.8 and Page Lester finished in 92nd with a time of 20:50.9. Loveys has yet again proven that she always has more gas left in the tank, rising 9 places within the last 2000 meters to finish in 34th.
The remaining Tigers who competed helped the Tigers to place 31st as a team out of a strong showing of 36 programs. Tsion Yared finished at 173rd (21:22.5), Fiona Max was not far behind at 182nd (21:26.9), India Weir came in 207th (21:42.6), Maggie Liebich in 224th (21:57.5), Alexis Allen in 241st (22:17.6), and Madeleine Burns finished in 247th (22:24.6).
Two Tigers, Stella Vieth and Isabel Max also competed in the unscored Women's 6k B race while at the Nuttycombe Invitational.
Also on Friday, Princeton had a squad of runners at the ECAC Championship Women's 6K race. The women finished as a team in 10th place out of 34 programs while in Van Cortland Park. Thanks to the combined efforts of six, different Tigers, the women were able to finish as a team within the Top-10 and end the day with several strong performances among the 338 runners.
Lucca Fulkerson was the top Tiger of the race, coming in 17th place (21:52.1). Morgan Monesmith finished in 44th (22:24.4), Angela Allen in 53rd (22:33.3), Maggie Hock in 71st (22:43.6), Mena Scatchard in 93rd (22:58.5), and Paola Rodriguez in 260th (25:08.4).
"Splitting the squad this weekend allowed for competitive opportunities across the roster", said head coach Brad Hunt. "We had some great individual performances in Wisconsin and New York. Abby Loveys continues to prove that she is one of the best individuals in the Ivy League and NCAA Mid-Atlantic Region. Lucca Fulkerson paved the way at the ECAC Championships for a top 10 team performance. Coming off mid-terms, we look forward to a great week of training over fall break as we prepare for the Ivy League Championships. After two straight highly competitive invitationals, we look forward to competing in the intimate and exciting atmosphere of the Ivy League Championships at the end of the month."
