October 28, 2022 | Women's Volleyball
PRINCETON, N.J. – Boosted by the return of senior Elena Montgomery, the Princeton University women's volleyball team completed the season of Harvard Friday night inside Dillon Gymnasium, triumphing 3-1 (25-18, 20-25, 25-13, 25-11).
The Tigers were evelevated by Montgomery's return, who played in her first match of 2022 after suffering an injury in the off-season. Montgomery added 10 kills on a .500 hitting percentage, and had one solo block for the Tigers.
Senior Melina Mahood led the way for Princeton, finishing with a match-high 15 kills, and senior Lindsey Kelly finished a match-high 47 assists along with a match-high four service aces, tying her career-high. Defensively, senior Cameron Dames led the match in kills with 13, while freshman Lucia Scalamandre's seven blocks were a match-high.
Princeton opened the match with a 5-0 run, that featured back-to-back service aces by Kelly. The Tigers didn't look back from there; up 11-7, a kill by freshman Valerie Nutakor led off a 4-0 that put Princeton ahead, 15-7, extending the Tigers' lead to eight. Consecutive kills by Mahood and senior Avery Luoma gave Princeton a 20-13 advantage and the Tigers went on to take the set, 25-18.
With help from an early 4-0 run, Harvard jumped out to a 5-3 lead in the second set. A 3-0 Crimson run saw Harvard get ahead 12-8, and maintained its four-point lead at 17-13, with a Princeton timeout following. The Tigers narrowed the deficit to two at 19-17, but the Crimson would prevail in the second set, 25-10.
Ignited by a Mahood kill, Princeton opened the third set on a 5-0 run. Shortly after, a Luoma kill sparked another 5-0 run that gave the Tigers a nine-point advantage at 10-1. Kills by Montgomery and Mahood pushed Princeton's lead to double-digits at 15-4, and the Tigers up 20-9, a Montgomery kill sparked a 4-0 run that give the Tigers set point at 24-9. A kill by sophomore Kathleen Bishop on set point would see the Tigers go up in the match, 2-1.

With the Tigers up 9-4, a kill by sophomore Mariah Haislip led off another 5-0 run, giving the Tigers a 10-point advantage at 14-4.
