Women's 6k Mid-Atlantic Regional Results
University Park, PA - The rain did not let up at this year's NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals at Penn State University, but neither did the Princeton Women's Cross Country team.
The Tigers finished fourth as a team, led by Abby Loveys, who finished third overall in University Park. The Princeton women had three finishers cross the line among the Top-25: Abby Loveys took third (20:41.9), Fiona Max finished in 12th (20:41.9), and Tsion Yared in 19th (20:52.6).
The trio of Top-25 finishes also qualified Loveys, Max, and Yared to all be named to the All-Region team. To have three Princeton runners named to the All-Region team is a mighty accomplishment given the amount of nationally ranked talent the Tigers were up against within the regional pool.
Despite the downpour throughout Friday's Race, Tsion Yared managed to set a new 6k Personal Record, in addition to being named an All-Region performer.
Princeton totaled 114 points to take fourth as a team. No. 13 Georgetown came out on top with 37 points. No. 29 West Virginia was second with 75 points, and fellow Ivy League member, Penn, finished in third with 106 points.
Loveys outstanding performance in University Park sends her to the NCAA Championship meet next week in Stillwater, Oklahoma as a top-four runner who was not a part of a team that automatically advanced.
"We went into today's race knowing that we were fully capable of putting ourselves in a position to succeed. Unfortunately, due to injury we did not obtain the result we imagined, but it does not take away from the courageous performance of our squad who continued to face great adversity racing against some challenging conditions and talented opponents," said head coach Brad Hunt. "We had some outstanding, individual performances today from Abby Loveys, Fiona Max, and Tsion Yared who all had the great honor of being named to the All-Region Team. It is a great achievement for our program to be recognized within the regional pool among so many big time programs and nationally ranked talent. This group has a lot to be proud of not only from today's showing, but from the entirety of the 2022 season. We proved that this year we are on the right track of continuing to become the championship team that we know that we can be, and this Friday showed that we are just on the cusp of getting there. There was such a great display of fans in Happy Valley who made the trip to come cheer the team on. We are so grateful for the remarkable support that our program has received all season from our alumni, parents, and administration. We are fortunate that our program has one more race to look forward to, and are all so excited to support Abby in Oklahoma next week at the NCAA Championship Race! Go Tigers!"
The women's NCAA Cross Country Championship will take place next week on November 19th in Stillwater, Oklahoma at Oklahoma State University.
