No. 10 Clarkson Uses Early Goal to Top No. 15 Princeton in Baker
November 19, 2022 | Women's Ice Hockey
A first-period goal ended up being the difference as No. 10 Clarkson held on for a 1-0 win over the No. 15-ranked Princeton women's hockey team Saturday afternoon in Baker Rink.
Brooke McQuigge, whose sister Rachel McQuigge '22 was one of the standout netminders in Tiger program history, scored the goal with less than six minutes to go in the first period, and though the Tigers outshot the Golden Knights 62-48 overall and 34-26 on goal, Clarkson's Michelle Pasiechnyk made all 34 stops. Princeton netminder Jennifer Olnowich made 25 saves as her bid for a third consecutive shutout came up one stop short.
The game was Princeton's last in Baker Rink for 2022 as the team will be on the road for the next three weekend before breaking for first-semester final exams and the holiday season. Princeton will be home again Jan. 6, 2023 against Dartmouth as the Hobey 100 Weekend, the celebration of 100 years of Hobey Baker Rink, commences.
Princeton's first of those three road weekends will take the team to Nashville, Tenn., for games next Friday and Sunday against No. 8/7 Northeastern and No. 9/9 Cornell as part of the Smashville Showcase, held at the Ford Ice Center, training facility for the NHL's Nashville Predators.
