PRINCETON, N.J. - The Princeton University women's volleyball team will host its final home matches of 2022 inside Dillon Gymnasium on Friday, November 4 and Saturday, November 5 against Harvard and Dartmouth.
Clinched
The Tigers' victory over Dartmouth on Saturday, October 29, clinched the team a spot in the inaugural Ivy League Women's Volleyball Tournament. Hosted by the No. 1 seed, the tournament will take place the weekend beginning Friday, November 18.
Honoring the Seniors
Prior to the Tigers' match against Yale, a ceremony will be held honoring the Class of 2023; Avery Luoma, Cameron Dames, Elena Montgomery, Melina Mahood, Lindsey Kelly and Olivia Schewe.
More Awards
Freshman Lucia Scalamandre was honored as the Ivy League Rookie of the Week for the fifth time in 2022 on Monday, October 31. In Princeton's weekend sweep of Harvard and Dartmouth, Scalamandre averaged 2.71 kills per set on a .444 hitting percentage, along with 1.57 blocks, while also adding two service aces and two digs. Additionally, senior Avery Luoma has been tabbed Ivy League Player of the Week twice, senior Melina Mahood once, and freshman Valerie Nutakor has also been named Rookie of the Week on two occasions.
National and Conference Leaders
As a team, Princeton leads the nation in assists (13.71) and kills (14.73), while ranking 10th in hitting percentage (.289). Lindsey Kelly is also the national leader in assists (11.88). The Tigers' hitting percentage is also a conference-best, while it also leads the Ivy League in digs (15.78). Luoma leads the conference in points (4.13), Mahood in kills (3.78), sophomore Mariah Haislip in hitting percentage (.380) and Dames in digs (4.83).
Moving Up The Record Book
After Princeton's win over Dartmouth, Dames' career dig total moved up to 1,458, which saw her move up to No. 4 all-time in school history in digs. She surpassed Head Coach Sabrina King, who ended her playing career at Princeton with 1,440 digs.
Montgomery's Return
All-Ivy League senior Montgomery appeared in her first two matches of 2022 against Harvard and Dartmouth, and the Tigers were boosted by her return. In the two wins, she averaged 3.0 kills per set, and also had three blocks and two digs.
