Women's Basketball Leaves Rutgers Home Alone In Comeback Victory, 77-56

PISCATAWAY – The Princeton Women's Basketball team shot 58 percent from the floor in the second half, scoring 55 points in the final 20 minutes of game action to take defeat the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, 77-56, at the Jersey Mike's Arena on Thursday evening.

Trailing 39-24 with 7:32 to go in the third quarter, Princeton went to work, registering 17 straight points over the next five minutes. During that stretch, the Tigers made the Scarlet Knights go 0-of-8 from the floor. Kaitlyn Chen scored five points in the last 36 seconds to give the Tigers a 47-44 advantage with a frame to go.

Holding a five-point lead halfway through the fourth stanza, Princeton went over four minutes without allowing a basket. During that time, the Tigers ripped off 13 straight, to put the game away.

Grace Stone did not miss in the second half, going 5-of-5 with four treys, adding all of her 16 points. Cunningham registered 16 of her 24 points in the final 20 while Chen dropped in 14 with six helpers.

The first quarter saw three lead changes and two ties as both teams were even at 14-all when it wrapped up. Rutgers finished the first half on a 18-5 run to hold a 10-point lead, 32-22, at halftime.

Princeton's 15-point comeback is the largest of the Carla Berube era, topping the 12-point rally at Yale in February of 2020.

The Tigers had four players in double figures with Julia Cunningham topping the Tigers on 8-of-13 shooting. Chen had 17 points, seven assists while Madison St. Rose had 10 points and Ellie Mitchell had 11 caroms as Princeton improved to 7-3 overall.

Kaylene Smikle led all scorers with 26 points for Rutgers who fell to 5-8 this season.
