Harvard Takes Down Women's Basketball, 67-59

CAMBRIDGE – The Harvard Crimson held off the Princeton Women's Basketball Team, 67-59, at Lavietes Pavilion on Saturday afternoon.
In front, 11-10, Harvard ended the first quarter with an 11-3 sprint to take a 22-13 advantage after 10 minutes. The home team stretched its lead to the largest of the contest, 26-13, with 7:38 to go in the first half. Princeton made inroads, cutting the deficit to seven, 31-24, at the break.
The Tigers opened the scoring in the second half with baskets from Madison St. Rose and Ellie Mitchell to get within three, 31-28, but the Crimson ran off five of the next seven points to stem the tide. The Tigers got as close as four but trailed 42-36 at the fourth frame got underway.
Princeton got as close as three or four points four times in the first five minutes of the quarter, but Harvard answered with a bucket each time. The Crimson made seven free throws over the final minute to take home the victory.
Kaitlyn Chen recorded her second straight 20-point contest with 21 points, adding four assists while Ellie Mitchell just missed a double-double with eight points and 14 rebounds. Harvard had three players in double figures led by McKenize Forbes and Harmoni Turner with 17 each.
Head coach Carla Berube's team falls to 8-4 this season and 0-1 in the Ivy League while Harvard improves to 8-5 and 1-0 in conference action. The Tigers welcome Columbia (7 p.m.) and Cornell (5 p.m.) to Jadwin Gym next Friday and Saturday. The contest vs. Columbia will be televised on ESPNU.
