Women’s Water Polo Notches Two Wins on Day One of the Princeton Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 21 Princeton University women's water polo team opened this year's Princeton Invitational by defeating the No. 17 ranked LIU Sharks, 17-16, and Saint Francis Brooklyn Terriers, 18-11.

Three Tigers contributed three or more goals in the game, including Jovana Sekulic (5), Kayla Yelensky (4), and Alana Evans (3).
A back and forth affair, Princeton and LIU found themselves deadlocked at three after the first quarter. The Tigers and Sharks each scored three goals in the second frame, tying the game at 6-all entering halftime.
Two goals each from Sekulic and Yelensky would lead to a two-goal advantage for the Tigers, heading into the fourth quarter. The lead remained at two with under two to play, before the Sharks scored twice to same the game into overtime.
Sekulic would score twice in the first overtime period, giving the Tigers a one goal lead. Kaila Carroll added a goal in the second overtime period, which LIU matched, and the Tigers held on to win 17-16.

The Tigers stared at a 1-0 deficit at the hands of the Terriers. Then, they blinked. Princeton rattled off five goals in a row and never looked back. The Tigers lead 13-5 at the half, then 16-5 heading into the fourth. The lead was as large as 12 at 18-6, before Princeton closed out with the victory.
