Men's Ice Hockey Downs Yale, 2-1, For Fifth Straight Ivy Win
February 08, 2022 | Men's Ice Hockey
PRINCETON – Princeton improved to 5-0-0 in Ivy League play this season with a 2-1 win over Yale to complete the season sweep of the Bulldogs.
The Tigers connected twice in the second period, and held on as Yale pushed the issue all the way to the final buzzer.
Corey Andonovski added to his team lead with his eighth goal of the season, while Nick Seitz added his third. All four assists for the Tigers came from defensemen, with Noah de la Durantaye, David Ma, Mike Ufberg and Mark Paolini each picking up helpers.
Jeremie Forget made 24 saves – 10 of which came in the third period – for the win.
With the victory, Princeton improves to 4-2-1 over its last six games to bring its ECAC record to 6-7-1. The Tigers have 20 points in ECAC play, moving into a tie for 7th place in the conference.
Princeton's five wins already this season against Ivy opponents are tied for seventh-most in a season against Ivy rivals. The five-game winning streak inside the regular season against Ivy opponents is the longest since the Tigers won eight in a row during the 2007-08 season en route to an Ivy championship.
Corey Andonovski scored his fifth power-play goal of the season 8:00 into the second period, wiring a slap shot from the top of the circle to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Assists were from Noah de la Durantaye and David Ma who worked passes along the blue line to find time and space for Andonovski.
Just 1:12 after the Tigers broke the ice, Nick Seitz gave Princeton a 2-0 lead. Once again, Princeton utilized crisp passing at the attacking blue line to move the Bulldogs' defense and open space for a goal. Mark Paolini fed across the zone to defense partner Mike Ufberg whose slap shot was denied by Yale's goalie only for Seitz to pounce on the rebound and quickly send it home just before the midway point of the middle period.
William Dineen got one back for Yale 3:08 into the third period, but that was as close as the Bulldogs would get as Forget closed the door the rest of the way.
The Tigers venture back on the road for a pair of games way up in New York, taking on No. 19 Clarkson (February 11) and St. Lawrence (February 12) at 7 p.m.
