Softball Team to Host Villanova on Wednesday (New Time)
March 21, 2022 | Softball
Villanova will head to Princeton Softball Stadium at Strubing Field for a single game on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.
Admission is free. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with live stats available here.
As the game is on a weekday before 5 p.m., attendees should park in the Harrison Street lot, found on the right side of this map, or at the meters on Prospect Avenue. Princeton Softball Stadium at Strubing Field is located just to the left of Fitzrandolph Road and just above the construction area on the map.
The Tigers enter the game having won seven of their last eight, including a three-game sweep of Brown over the weekend to open the Ivy League season. Alexis Laudenslager threw a no-hitter in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader, earning Ivy League Pitcher of the Week honors. Princeton hits .257 as a team with Adrienne Chang leading the way at .360.Â
The Wildcats (10-15, 0-2 Big East) also opened their conference season last weekend, getting two of the three games in on Friday against Butler before weather nixed Sunday's single game.
Megan Kern leads Villanova (.240 team BA), hitting .321. The six-member pitching staff has an ERA of 3.64, with Paige Rauch (3.24 ERA, 58 1/3 IP), Kelsey White (3.72, 43 1/3), Sara Kennedy (4.51, 40 1/3) and Caroline Pellicano (1.31, 21 1/3) as the most-used arms.
Princeton holds a 22-15-1 record in the all-time series. Villanova was one of two opponents that Princeton faced in last spring's local-only season, with Princeton opening the three-game schedule at Villanova. The Wildcats, who were playing their 38th game of the season, won 3-2 to improve to 27-11. Kern had a second-inning solo homer for Villanova while Rauch drove in each of the other two runs with a fourth-inning double and a sixth-inning single. Madison Hamilton and Hannah Lutz '21 drove in Princeton's runs in the fith and sixth innings, each on a groundout. Molly Chambers threw the first five innings for Princeton before Laudenslager threw the sixth, and Kennedy and Pellicano are the two returning arms from that game for the Wildcats, combining to pitch four shutout innings.
Villanova's last visit to Princeton in 2013 was also the teams' last meeting before the 2021 game, with Princeton winning 4-1 at the Class of 1895 Field.Â
