Softball Team Sweeps Harvard to Reach 17-1 in Ivy

A day after clinching their fifth straight Ivy League title, the Princeton softball team kept it going on Sunday to complete the series sweep at Harvard with an 8-2 win.
With the win, the 2026 Tigers became just the eighth team since 2007, when the Ivy League season grew to 20 games before becoming 21 games in 2018, to win at least 17 Ivy games. Four of the eight teams are Princeton teams, with 2026 alongside 2008, 2022 and 2025, and it's just the second time an team has won at least 17 Ivy games in back-to-back seasons, along with Harvard in 2011 and 2012. Princeton can go for the league wins record next week when it hosts Dartmouth, as Princeton in 2008, Harvard in 2011 and Dartmouth in 2014 set and then equaled the Ivy wins record of 18.Â
Sunday's game saw Princeton score twice in the first inning on an Abby Hornberger RBI single to pick up Sonia Zhang, who reached on a leadoff error, followed by a Jessica Phelps ground ball that picked up a Graciela Dominguez double.
Harvard got both runs back on a Sophie Sun two-run homer in the bottom of the first, but on a day that saw Brielle Wright, Keala Hollenkamp and Reece Uehara team up in the circle, that was it for the Crimson.Â
Princeton scored four runs in the third inning on three hits, two walks and and two errors, with a Phelps single leading to three runs and a 5-2 lead after one of those two errors. The second error allowed Julieta Roa to reach and bring home the innings final run for a 6-2 lead.
Phelps hit a fifth-inning homer to pick up a Hornberger double for the 8-2 lead.
Wright went 2 1/3 innings and allowed two runs on a hit and three walks, striking out two, before Hollenkamp threw 3 1/3 shutout innings, allowing three hits and a walk, striking out one, before Uehara finished it off by retiring all four batters she faced, striking out one.Â
