Women's Lightweight Rowing Retains Class of 1999 Cup
April 02, 2022 | Women's Rowing - Lightweight
No. 1 Princeton retained its position as the top-ranked crew in the country, and held on to the Class of 1999 Cup with a win over No. 5 Radcliffe as well as No. 4 Georgetown on Lake Carnegie as the Tigers returned to home waters for the first time since April 20, 2019.
The Tigers posted a 4.3-second win for their third consecutive Class of 1999 Trophy victory. The Tigers are now 9-5 all-time in Class of 1999 Cup races, and 16-6 overall against Radcliffe.
"Today was a classic early Spring morning on Lake Carnegie," said head coach Paul Rassam. "It felt great to be back on our home course and competing for a Cup against two of our traditional rivals. There's always an extra bit of energy when we see an Ivy crew in the lane next to us, and I know the team was excited to be back battling Ivy rivals. This was another great step as we build towards May, and next weekend with the Knecht Cup will be an even clearer barometer of where we stand heading towards the postseason."
For Princeton, defending IRA champions, the win for the 1V is the second in a row as the Tigers opened 2022 with a 13.1-second win over Georgetown last weekend on the Potomac.
