Men’s Tennis upends Cornell 4-1
April 22, 2022 | Men's Tennis
PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 39 Princeton University men's tennis team defeated No. 65 Cornell 4-1, a proper send-off for the class of 2022 on senior day.
The Tigers clinched the doubles point, as the tandem of Damian Rodriguez and Karl Poling cruised past Adit Sinha and Nathan Mao 6-1 at No. 2, while the pair of Thomas Bosancic and Filippos Astreinidis dispatched Pietro Rimondini and Evan Bynoe 6-2 at No. 3.
In singles, Justin Barki got by Vladislav Melnic 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 at No. 2 as Karl Poling overcame Radu Papoe 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3. Meanwhile, Will Peters earned a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Pietro Rimondini at No. 4.
"I'm very proud of our team today, especially seeing so many of the seniors contribute on their final home match at Princeton," said Head Coach Billy Pate. "It's a little bittersweet because this is an incredible group of five young men. We have a bigger group graduating due to the pandemic and gap years - but these five will go down as substantial contributors for our program. They set a great tone for our culture with how they have represented our university. I know they want to finish off their careers as strong as possible and we'll look forward to the challenge at Columbia on Sunday. We're in contention for an at-large NCAA berth and we'd like to do everything possible to secure that. Today was a good step and I'm really proud of how we weathered a tough challenge from a very good Cornell team. It was a battle after doubles, though we were making a resounding push toward winning when Justin clinched the 4th point on his court."
