Men’s Tennis Edged 4-3 by No. 25 Columbia
April 24, 2022 | Men's Tennis
NEW YORK – The No. 39 Princeton University men's tennis team fell 4-3 to No. 25 Columbia, Saturday afternoon at the Campbell Sports Center.
The Tigers clinched the doubles point, as the pairing of Justin Barki and Ryan Seggerman got past Max Westphal and Theo Winegar 6-2 at No. 1, while the tandem of Karl Poling and Damian Rodriguez took down Austen Huang and Hugo Hashimoto 6-3 at No. 2.
In singles, Justin Barki earned a 6-2, 6-7, 6-1 victory over Hugo Hashimoto at No. 2 while Karl Poling defeated Max Westphal 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 at No. 3.
"This was a great college tennis match but unfortunately, we fell inches short," said Head Coach Billy Pate. "It's disappointing, but I couldn't be more proud of our team's effort and fight throughout the match. We played a solid doubles point but dug ourselves a hole in getting down 1-3. However, we battled back and had our chances. Unquestionably, we have an NCAA tournament caliber team and we will wait to see if we receive an at-large berth next Monday. I hope we get that opportunity as I know this group has a lot more to prove."
