Dartmouth Takes Weekend Finale
April 03, 2022 | Softball
Dartmouth pitcher Brooke Plonka provided an encore to her performance in Saturday's second game, keeping the Princeton softball team's offense in check in an 8-0, six-inning win on Sunday to close the series at Princeton Softball Stadium at Strubing Field.
Princeton will take at least a first-place tie into next weekend's visit from Cornell, with a non-league game at Monmouth ahead on Tuesday.
Rookie Sophia Marsalo had Princeton's first hit of the game with a fourth-inning double, but Plonka kept Marsalo there and carried the shutout to the finish. Dartmouth scored four runs in the second inning on three hits, two walks and two errors, with Maria Angelino getting a two-run double and Maddie Katona a run-scoring hit.Â
It stayed 4-0 for the Big Green until the fourth, when Dartmouth added three runs on four hits. Mary Beth Cahalan and Leila Hennessy each drove in a run to help push the Big Green lead to 7-0.
A leadoff single for Billie McFadyen and a double for Kate Farren later in the inning made it 8-0 for Dartmouth, and when Princeton went in order in the sixth, Dartmouth clinched its win.
