No. 12 Women's Lacrosse Blasts Brown, 18-6
April 09, 2022 | Women's Lacrosse
PROVIDENCE – Back in action, back in the win column.
After a 10-day layoff, No. 12 Princeton returned to the field with a renewed vigor, powering past Brown, 18-6.
The Tigers never trailed in the game, and it really wasn't close after a dominant 7-0 first quarter for Princeton. With the win, the Tigers are now 2-0 in the Ivy League and 7-2 overall.
How It Happened
Five different players had goals for Princeton in the opening period, including two apiece from Maria Pansini and Grace Tauckus.
The Tigers were quick out of the gate, scoring six time in the opening 7:24. McKenzie Blake netted the first goal 1:56 into the game before Maria Pansini followed 60 seconds later with a dodge to goal while switching hands.
Grace Tauckus and Kyla Sears would then score twice in a span of 0:33 to build a 4-0 Princeton lead just 4:55 into the game. Pansini would fire home her second of the game via a free position before Kate Mulham made it 6-0 for the Orange and Black with a tough dodge through a pair of Brown defenders just before the midway mark of the first quarter.
The Bears would score twice in the first 2:59 of the second quarter to finally get on the board but that was all the offense the Bears would muster in the first half. Kyla Sears took over from there, scoring the final three goals of the first half – twice connecting on free position attempts – to send the Tigers to halftime with a 10-2 lead.
The third quarter started similarly to the second – a pair of Brown goals – and ended just as the second frame did – all Princeton the rest of the way. After the Bears clawed back to 10-4, the Tigers slammed the door with five consecutive goals to end the third. All five Princeton goals in the third quarter came over the final 6:20 – a pair from Sears alongside goals from Ellie Mueller, Lucie Gildehaus and McKenzie Blake. The goal from Blake was a buzzer-beater, bouncing home from outside the eight-meter arc as time expired.
Naturally, the fourth quarter went the same way as the two before it – Brown scored twice and then the Tigers shut the door. Two Bears goals briefly got the Princeton lead back into single digits, but the Tigers would score the final three goals of the game to cruise on home.
Up next for the Tigers is a home date with No. 9 Maryland at Sherrerd Field on April 13 at 7 p.m.
