No. 22 Men's Track & Field Sits First After Day One at Heps

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – On a day highlighted by a pair of conference titles and a new school record, the Princeton University men's track & field team sits in first place after the opening day of the 2022 Ivy League Heptagonal Track & Field Championships Saturday at Dwyer Track.
The Tigers have 47 points overall, 11 points clear of Harvard University who are second with 36.
Aviram Shwarzbard started the day off with a win in the long jump, producing a best leap of 7.48 meters. He is now the 2022 indoor and outdoor champion in the long jump.
Sondre Guttormsen finished in first place in the pole vault, clearing 5.72 meters. Simen Guttormsen finished second, with a mark of 5.52 meters, meaning the Guttorsmen brothers earned identical finishes at 2022 Indoor Heps. Will Drury's mark of 4.72 meters saw him finish ninth.
Chandler Ault finished as runner-up and set a new school record in the javelin of 72.47 meters. He bested his previous record of 72.35 meters set at the 2022 Texas Relays.
Princeton had four finishers inside the top-seven of the 10,000 meters; Kevin Berry finished third in 29:18.61, Matt Grossman fourth in 29:19.16, Anthony Monte sixth in 29:29.25, and Joshua Zelek seventh in 29:32.49.
The Tigers produced the four-fastest times in the 100 meters; Daniel Duncan (10.23), Ibrahim Ayorinde (10.38), Kaden Reynolds (10.39), and Simang'Aliso Ndhlovu (10.42). Greg Sholars also took eighth, finishing in 10.45. Due to the wind exceeding 2.0 m/s, none of the times were eligible for the Tigers' all-time top-10 list.
Chris Paige was first in the 400-meter heats, clocking in at 54.59. William Doyle finished fifth in 54.79, and Taraje Whitfield 12th in 56.41.
Jovan Aigbekaen's time of 14.17 in the 110 meter hurdles saw him finish third in the heats, and was the third-fastest time in school history. He bested the previous No. 3 time on the Tigers' list of 14.23 set by Greg Caldwell '16 at the 2015 IC4A Championships, and his previous PR of 14.28 set at the 2022 Mason Spring Invite. Christian Brown came in seventh 14.44, and Taraje Whitfield eighth (14.65).
In the 1,5000 meters, Harrison Witt produced the fastest heat time of 3:51.93. Sam Ellis finished seventh in 3:55.52, and Duncan Miller 21st in 4:15.38.
Andersen Dimon finished first in the hears of the 400 meters, crossing the line in 47.21. Michael Phillippy's time of 47.87 saw him finish fourth, and Ladislav Topfer came in seventh in 48.26.
Ethan Reese was second-fastest in the 800-meter heats, finishing in 1:52.11, and Sam Rodman third in 1:52.94.
In the hammer throw, Paul Brennan came in eighth with a mark of 56.09 meters, and William Cauley ninth after a 55.04-meter heave.
