EUGENE, Ore. – It was a sensational first NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships for Kate Joyce of the Princeton University women's track & field team, as she finished sixth in the javelin, collected First Team All-America honors, and shattered the Ivy League record Thursday night inside Hayward Field.
Joyce, the 2022 Ivy League Most Outstanding Field Performer, won her flight and produced a best throw of 54.68 meters, shattering the previous Ivy League record of 51.96 meters she set at 2022 Outdoor Heps. Her 54.68-meter mark came on her third throw; she improved upon her distances each attempt as she earned a spot in the final, starting with a throw of 47.03 meters, then producing a mark of 51.91 meters on her second attempt.
While she fouled her first attempt in the final, she bounced back with a mark of 50.77 meters on her second attempt. Her third and final attempt of the final went 53.73 meters.
The Tigers have now had an All-American in the throws for five-straight seasons, as Obiageri Amaechi '21 collected All-America honors in the discus in 2021, 2019, and 2018, while Julia Ratcliffe '17 was an All-American in the hammer throw in 2017.
Caroline Timm capped a sensational career at Princeton, finishing 18th in the 1,500 meters in 4:22.32. She was also the Ivy League Runner-Up and a Second Team All-Ivy League honoree in the 1,500, and her PR of 4:13.64 set at the 2022 NCAA East Regional ranks as the No. 2 all-time time in program history. She was the 2020 Ivy League Champion in the 1,000 meters, is part of the team that holds the school record in the DMR, and holds five top-five times in program history.
