Sondre Guttormsen Named 2022 Bowerman Semifinalist

NEW ORLEANS – After sweeping the pole vault national titles, Sondre Guttormsen of the Princeton University men's track & field team was named as one of 10 semifinalists for the 2022 Bowerman, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Tuesday.

Guttormsen began the year by representing Norway at the Tokyo Olympics, then went on to win national titles in both indoor and outdoor pole vault, clearing 5.75 meters at both meets on route to earning the sweep. He also helped Princeton place fifth in the USTFCCCA Program of the Year standings, earn program-best finishes of fifth and seventh at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships, won indoor and outdoor Ivy League pole vault titles, helped the Tigers win both indoor and outdoor Heps, and cleared 5.75 meters five times in 2022.

His college indoor PR of 5.82 meters took place at the Tyson Invitational, and it equaled the ninth-best all-time indoor mark by a collegian. Guttormsen's college outdoor PR of 5.81 meters took place at the 2021 Chula Vista High Performance Meet.

Debuting in 2009, the Bowerman was named after former University of Oregon coach Bill Bowerman, and is presented annually to the most outstanding male and female NCAA track & field athletes in the nation.

Guttormsen will also represent Norway at the 2022 World Athletics Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. The qualifying round takes place on Friday, July 22, and the final on Sunday, July 24.
