Princeton Men's Rowing Teams Having Outstanding Start To World Rowing Championships

VARESE, Italy – The Princeton men rowing teams had a great start to the U19 and U23 World Rowing Championships.
"It was an awesome day of racing for the Tigers," said Princeton head coach Greg Hughes. It was great to see them race for their countries, and we can't wait to see how the rest of the regatta goes. With 25 Princeton athletes, there is a lot of support for our Tigers. "
Heavyweights
Patrick Long helped the U23 Australia 8+ boat earn the top time (5:34.77) in its heat and will race for a medal on July 30th. Joining Long and Australia will be Theo Bell '26 and Great Britain after a five-second win (5:25.06) over the United States (5:30.99).
Hanno Brach and the U23 Germany 4+ squad won its hat (6:12.65), just in front of Australia (6:12.92) to advance to the final on July 29th.
Erik Spinka, Zachary Vachal and Nathan Phelps of the U23 United States 4+ (6:07.98) missed the final by .45 of a second behind Great Britain (6:07.53) and will race tomorrow in the repechage.
Floyd Benedikter and Nick Taylor of the U23 United States 2- rowed to a 6:42.39 and go in a repechage tomorrow.
Andrew Wilkinson '26 (U19 United States 4+) and Marcus Chute '26 Great Britain U19 1x get started tomorrow and Thursday.
Lightweights
David Van Velden and Hidde Lyklama '26 of the U23 Netherlands LM2X won their heat (6:30.32) and will go off in the A/B Semifinals (July 28th). Reuben Cook '26 (New Zealand) helped his boat to fourth in its heat and races in a repechage tomorrow.
Nick Aronow helped the U23 United States LM1x boat earn a spot in the A/B Semifinals after placing second its repechage (7:03.01).
Adam Casler '26 and the U19 U.S. 8+ race on Thursday.
