Davey, McCarthy, Popper Named Field Hockey Captains

A team without senior leadership a year ago will be loaded with it this time around. The Princeton field hockey team, which didn't have a single senior in 2021, will have eight of them this coming season.
Â
Of that group, Hannah Davey, Ali McCarthy and Sammy Popper have been named the captains for the 2022 season. The three bring more than experience to the team, as all three have been first-team All-Ivy League selections in their careers.
Â
Davey, from Derbyshire, England, is a two-time first-team All-Ivy League selection, once on offense and once on defense. She was also a second-team All-American on Princeton's 2019 NCAA runner-up team.
Â
McCarthy, from New Jersey prep power Oak Knoll, was a first-team All-Ivy League selection in 2021 and second-team All-Ivy selection in 2019. She enters her senior year with 25 career goals and 59 career points.
Â
Popper, who played at Germantown Academy, has also been a two-time All-Ivy pick, as well as the 2019 Ivy League Rookie of the Year. She has career totals of 19 goals and 48 points.
Â
Princeton begins practice this coming week and will scrimmage St. Joe's at home on Aug. 23 at 5. The Tigers open their season Sept. 2 at North Carolina.
