Amaechi's Bronze Opens Commonwealth Games For Princeton Track Contingent

Obiageri Amaechi '21 captured a bronze medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England while competing for Nigeria.
A two-time NCAA All-American and holder of both the school and Ivy League record in the discus, Amaechi's fifth throw of 56.99 meters was good for third in the field of 11 competitors.
Three other Tigers are competing at the Commonwealth Games -- Julia Ratcliffe (New Zealand, Hammer Throw), Ed Trippas (Australia, Steeplechase), Lizzie Bird (Great Britain, Steeplechase).
Ractliffe has already qualified through to Saturday's final in the Hammer with the second-best mark. She will compete in the Final on Saturday, as will Trippas. On Friday night, Bird will run in the women's steeplechase final.
