Ivy League Weekly Awards Swept by Women’s Volleyball

PRINCETON, N.J. – After posting a 4-0 record last week that included a sweep of the Rutgers Tournament, the Princeton University women's volleyball team swept the Ivy League weekly awards Monday, with senior Avery Luoma being named Player of the Week and freshman Valerie Nutakor Rookie of the Week.
Luoma collected her second Ivy League Player of the Week, as she also garnered the honor on Monday, November 6. Nutakor was named Rookie of the Week or the second-straight week, and the Tigers have been featured in all three rounds of Ivy weekly awards so far in 2022-23.
The duo helped lead Princeton a 4-0 record last week and a sweep at the Rutgers Tournament, where Luoma was named MVP and to the All-Tournament Team. The Tigers first took down Rider, 3-1 (25-19, 23-25, 25-16, 25-11) on Wednesday, September 14 in their home opener. On Saturday, September 17, the Tigers overcame Florida International, 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-17), and Fairleigh Dickinson, 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-21). Princeton wrapped up the tournament with a 3-0 (25-22, 26-24, 25-18) victory over Big Ten opponent Rutgers on Sunday, September 18.
Throughout the tournament, Luoma averaged 4.8 kills per set on a .471 hitting percentage, along with 2.8 digs. In Princeton's home opener against Rider, she had 23 kills on a .538 hitting percentage along with 16 digs. Against FIU, Luoma led the match in kills with 14 on a .600 hitting percentage and also tallied five digs and four blocks. In the Tigers' win over the Scarlet Knights, she finished with 11 kills and seven digs.
Nutakor averaged 3.0 kills per set, along with 2.0 digs and and 0.67 blocks. She finished with 13 kills on a .417 hitting percentage, along with five digs and two blocks against Rider. Nutakor also had 10 kills on a .346 hitting percentage along with seven digs and one block against the Panthers, and eight kills, five digs, and two service aces against Rutgers.
Princeton will be in action next on Friday, September 23 at 7:00 p.m. inside Dillon Gymnasium against the University of Pennsylvania (1-8).
