Lucia Scalamandre Honored as Ivy Rookie of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. – Freshman Lucia Scalamandre of the Princeton University women's volleyball team became the third Tiger to earn a weekly award Monday, as she was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week.
Scalamandre played a leading role in the Tigers' Ivy-opening victory over the University of Pennsylvania on Friday, September 23, inside Dillon Gymnasium. Princeton overcame the Quakers, 3-0 (25-21, 25-12, 25-13), and Scalamandre finished with a match-high six blocks along with nine kills on a .615 hitting percentage.
On the season, Scalamandre leads the conference in blocks per set with 1.36, and total blocks with 45. Her .369 hitting percentage also ranks second in the Ivy League.
She becomes the second Tigers to be named Ivy League Rookie of the Week, as freshman Valerie Nutakor received the award on Monday, September 19, and Monday, September 12. Additionally, senior Avery Luoma was tabbed Ivy League Player of the Week on Tuesday, September 6, and Monday, September 19.
Scalamandre and the Tigers are in action next on Friday, October 30, in Hanover, New Hampshire, against Dartmouth (9-2, 1-0) at 7:00 p.m. inside Leede Arena.
