No. 16 Women's Water Polo To Host Princeton Winter Tournament This Weekend

PRINCETON – The Women's Water Polo team will host the Princeton Winter Tournament this weekend at DeNunzio Pool (Jan. 27-29) this weekend.
Princeton, ranked No. 16 in the Collegiate Water Polo Association poll, starts with an impressive stretch with No. 15 UC San Diego (11:30 a.m.) and LIU Brooklyn (5 p.m.) on Saturday (Jan. 28) while battling No. 12 UC Santa Barbara (9:30 a.m.) and No. 17 Wagner (3:30 p.m.) on Sunday (Jan. 29).
Head coach Derek Ellingson's group returns seven of its eight 20+ goal scorers from last year including Jovana Sekulic and Kayla Yelensky.
Sekulic earned All-America accolades with an outstanding rookie campaign that featured 74 goals, 70 drawn ejections, 31 steals and nine assists. Her 74 tallies are tied for eighth most in a single season in Princeton history. The freshman put up a goal in all but one appearance last season, adding 14 hat tricks and 21 multi-goal performances.
Yelensky secured 55 tallies along with 39 assists and 36 steals in 2022. Kaila Carroll (47), Meera Burghard (39), Rachael Carver (34), Laura Larkin (28) and Kate Mallery (22) also return for the Tigers. Larkin collected All-America accolades showing an all-around game in 2022 with 28 goals, 20 assists, 26 steals and 13 drawn ejections in 26 games. She had seven multi-goal performances and seven multi-assist outings.
Princeton went 21-10 last season, placing third in the CWPA. The Tigers recorded eight wins over top-25 teams and posted at least 20 victories for the fourth straight full season.
