Women's Basketball's Defense Leads To Dominating Win Over Yale, 79-30

PRINCETON – The Women's Basketball Team's defense shined as it allowed just 11 baskets overall in a 79-30 victory over the Yale Bulldogs at Jadwin Gym on Saturday afternoon.

Yale's 30 points is the lowest total by a Princeton opponent since Lafayette registered 27 on December 7th, 2016 (65-27 decision). The Tigers gave up under 10 points in three quarters while scoring at least 20 points over the final three stanzas.

The score was tied at 6-all, but Princeton countered with seven of the next eight and led 14-9 after 10 minutes.

Yale went over six minutes during the second quarter without scoring as Princeton secured a 12-0 run. The home unit eventually went into the locker room with a 36-13 lead. During the second stanza, the Tigers gave up two buckets to Yale while shooting 8-of-13 from the floor (61.5 percent).

The Bulldogs never got within 24 in the second half.

Madison St. Rose led all scorers with 17 points, adding two rebounds. She has five 15+ point outings in her last six games. Kaitlyn Chen snagged 11 points, six helpers and was a +46 in 30 minutes of playing time. Ellie Mitchell grabbed 12 boards while Chet Nweke had a career-high 10 points in the victory.

Princeton is now 14-5 overall and 5-2 in the Ivy League while Yale dropped to 10-10 this season and 4-3 in conference action. The Tigers head on the road to Cornell next Friday (Feb. 3, 6 p.m.) and Columbia next Saturday (Feb. 4, 4 p.m.).
