
Allocco & Lee Lead Men's Basketball to 70-67 Victory at Duquesne

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Led by career nights from senior Matt Allocco and sophomore Xaivian Lee, the Princeton University men's basketball team moved to 3-0 on the season with a 70-67 victory over Duquesne Wednesday night inside UPMC Coopers Fieldhouse.
Allocco's game and career-high 23 points came on 10-for-13 shooting, including a perfect 2-for-2 from three. Allocco recorded his previous career-high of 21 points twice, including in Princeton's win over Rutgers on Nov. 6. Lee also added a career-high 20 points for the Tigers, going 7-for-12 from the field. Lee's previous career-high of 16 points also came at the Jersey Jam in the Tigers' victory over Rutgers on Nov. 6.
Junior Blake Peters scored in double figure for Princeton, finishing with 11 points and connecting on three three-pointers for the third-straight game. He also recorded a career-best four steals to lead the game. The Tigers were led in rebounding by sophomore Caden Pierce who had eight. Pierce, Lee and Peters each handed out three assists, tying the team-high.
The Tigers opened the game with a 5-0 run courtesy of a pull-up three-pointer by Peters and an Allocco turnaround jumper. A Lee layup followed by a mid-range jumper by Allocco kept Princeton's advantage at five, 13-8, with 12:44 remaining in the half.
Duquesne battled back to tie it up at 17-17 with 10:19 on the clock, but a jumper by Pierce ignited a 10-0 Princeton run that saw the Tigers surge ahead, 25-17, with 7:57 remaining in the half following a Lee three-point play. The Dukes responded with a 9-0 run of their own, and took a 26-25 advantage with 5:38.
The half of runs continued with a pair of Lee free throws sparking a 9-0 run for the Tigers, which saw Princeton take a 34-26 lead with 2:10 to go in the half then enter halftime with a 37-31 advantage.
A layup by Allocco followed by a Peters three-pointer and a Lee layup saw the Tigers go up 44-35 with 16:37 remaining, but a 6-0 run by Duquesne narrowed the deficit to three points at 44-41 with 15:26 on the clock.
The Tigers and Dukes proceeded to battle back-and-forth, with freshman Jacob Huggins scoring his first college points to put Princeton ahead, 52-46, at 12:38. Shortly after, Princeton extended its lead to 58-49 with 8:47 on the clock after a 6-0 run featuring layups by senior Zach Martini and Allocco, along with a Lee two-handed dunk.
The Dukes bounced back to make it a one-point game with 1:45 remaining, 66-65, but a short jumper by Allocco with 1:24 remaining and a pair of Lee free throws with 0.4 of a second on the clock sealed the win for Princeton, 70-67.
