Women's Volleyball Falls to Brown at Ivy Tournament

NEW HAVEN, CONN. – The No. 3 seed Princeton University women's volleyball team fell to No. 2 seed Brown in the Ivy League Tournament semifinals Friday evening inside the John J. Lee Amphitheatre, 3-1 (25-18, 13-25, 25-13, 25-16).
The Tigers end the 2023 season with a 14-9 overall record and an 11-3 record in conference play, securing second place in the Ivy League regular season standings. Princeton also clinched a spot in the Ivy League Tournament in both its years of existence.
Senior Maya Satchell recorded a double-double, leading the Tigers in kills with 13 and recording 14 digs along with a team-high four blocks. Freshman Sydney Draper led Princeton in assists with 32, while freshman Sydney Bold's 20 digs were a team-high.
The first set saw Princeton use a pair of 4-0 runs to race out to a 10-5 lead, but Brown battled back and used a pair of 3-0 runs to take a 20-16 advantage. A kill by freshman Kamryn Chaney followed by a Satchell block brought the deficit back to two at 20-18, but the Bears regained the momentum and took the first set 25-18.
With the Tigers up 6-4 in the second set, a 5-0 Princeton that run that included three-straight Satchell kills gave the Tigers an 11-4 lead. A kill by sophomore Valerie Nutakor ignited a 4-0 run that saw Princeton take a double-digit lead, 15-5. With the Tigers holding set point at 24-13, a double block by Chaney and junior Mariah Haislip saw Princeton level it up at 1-1 and triumph in the second set, 25-13.
Princeton also got off to a strong start in the third set with a kill by Haislip leading a 6-0 run that put the Tigers up 9-6. From there, Brown took control of the set and went on to prevail, 25-13. The fourth set was a similar story as the Bears earned a nine-point victory, 25-16.
