
Four Double Digit Scorers Lead Men's Basketball Past ODU, 76-56

NORFOLK, Va. – In the first meeting in history between the Princeton University men's basketball team and Old Dominion Wednesday afternoon, four double digit scorers led the Tigers past the Monarchs, 76-56, inside Chartway Arena to move to 5-0 on the 2023-24 season.
The Tigers' 5-0 start is their first start of at least 5-0 since 1997-98, when Princeton opened the season 7-0. The Tigers also remain the only unbeaten NCAA Division I men's team in the nation yet to play a home game,
Sophomore Xaivian Lee led the game in scoring with 19 points on 8-for-13 shooting and also grabbed four rebounds and handed out three assists. Sophomore Caden Pierce finished with 13 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, in what was his third double-double of the season and the 10th of his career.
Junior Blake Peters added 12 points and connected on four three-pointers. With his four makes from long distance, Peters has now made at least three three-pointers in four out of the Tigers' five games in 2023-24. Senior Matt Allocco added 11 points on 3-for-5 shooting and handed out a game-high six assists while senior Zach Martini contributed nine points, made three three-pointers and pulled down five rebounds.
While ODU raced out to a 10-5 lead with 15:04 on the clock, back-to-back three-pointers by Peters and Pierce saw the Tigers take a 14-12 advantage with 13:47 remaining in the half. Princeton and ODU would continue to battle back-and-forth, then at 9:53 a three-pointer by Martini ignited an 8-0 that put Princeton in front, 27-20, after a three-pointer by Allocco with 8:08 remaining in the half.
Layups by Lee and Pierce extended Princeton's advantage to 31-22 with 4:58 on the clock, before a pair of free throws by sophomore Jack Scott gave the Tiger an 11-point lead, 36-25, at 1:44. Princeton would take a 37-30 advantage into the half.
The second half saw the Tigers extend their lead back to double-digits, with a dunk by Pierce followed by a Lee layup with 16:07 left to play giving Princeton a 46-34 advantage. A pair of free throws by Allocco with 13:34 remaining sparked an 8-0 run that gave Princeton a 56-38 lead with 12:10 on the clock, after a three-pointer by Martini.
Princeton didn't let up; at 9:40 a layup by Pierce led a 6-0 run that gave the Tigers a 19-point advantage, 62-43, with 7:25 left to play. The Tigers' lead extended to 20, 68-48, at 4:45 after a three-pointer by Allocco, before freshman Dalen Davis connected on his first career three-pointer with 2:20 on the clock, that gave Princeton a 71-51 lead. From there, the Tigers held on for the 76-56 triumph.
