Women's Basketball Gets Stops In Fourth Quarter; Rallies Over Duquesne, 65-57
November 06, 2023 | Women's Basketball
PRINCETON – The Princeton Women's Basketball Team used a career-high 26 points from Madison St. Rose to take down the Duquesne Dukes, 65-57, at Jadwin Gym on Monday.
Princeton's mantra is #GetStops.
It's a staple of head coach Carla' Berube's philosophies.
In the end tonight, the Tigers got stops when it mattered the most.
The defending Ivy League Champions allowed five points and just two made baskets over the final 10 minutes of action, turning a five-point deficit into an eight-point victory.
The Dukes scored the first basket of the frame with 9:36 to go and did not score again until the clock read 2:12.
Seven minutes and 24 seconds without a basket.
#GetStops, indeed.
St. Rose scored 10 of her 26 points in that stanza including consecutive possessions with treys that essentially iced the game.
Her five three-pointers in the season-opener were also a career mark while she also set a personal high with four steals and added five rebounds and three assists.
Before the game, Princeton remembered the 2022-23 campaign by giving out their championship rings.
The Tigers trailed 16-6 after 10 minutes but used a 15-5 sprint over the final five minutes of the first half to take a 26-24 lead.
Duquesne made another push, using an 8-2 run to begin the second half to retake the lead, 30-29, at the 8:14 mark of the third quarter. The Dukes led by five during that stretch before taking a three-point advantage into the fourth frame.
The last time, Princeton trailed by double-digits in a game?
The whole reason the players got championship rings. The Ivy League Tournament Final vs. Harvard.
Kaitlyn Chen had 15 points and match her career high with seven helpers. Ellie Mitchell grabbed 15 caroms and blocked three shots.
Amaya Hamilton led the Dukes with 18 points in the loss.
Princeton has won six straight season-opening contests. The Tigers head on the road to take on Middle Tennessee State on Sunday. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
