Women's Basketball Earns Spot in #IvyMadness with 80-37 Win Over Brown

PROVIDENCE – The Women's Basketball Team used a 33-2 third quarter to collect its 10th consecutive victory and clinch a spot in the Ivy League Tournament with an 80-37 victory over the Brown Bears at Pizzitola Sports Center on Friday evening.

The Tigers scored 33 points in the first half and then exploded for 33 points in the third frame, shooting 13-of-14 from the floor. Princeton did not allow a basket during the stretch, marking the second time during the Carla Berube era that it had done that (Cornell, Feb. of 2020).

Kaitlyn Chen led all scorers with 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting (75.0 percent) while Madison St. Rose put up 16 points and four helpers. The freshman has now scored at least 10 points in nine of her last 10 outings. Julia Cunningham was two rebounds shy of a double-double, adding 11 points.

The road squad had 10 different players score and held a 46-31 rebounding advantage featuring eight players with at least three caroms. Princeton also blocked 11 shots, the most since February of 2020 vs. Harvard.

Even at 9-all in the first quarter, Princeton scored seven straight before taking a 16-11 lead after 10 minutes. The Tigers used a 11-1 sprint in the second stanza to balloon its advantage to 15, 32-17, and eventually held a 33-22 halftime lead.

Princeton, Columbia, and Penn all clinched spots in the Ivy League Tournament following tonight's action. Harvard and Yale will fight for the fourth and final spot in the tournament that will be from Mar. 10-11 at Jadwin Gym.

This is the 12th time in Berube's career that her teams have recorded a 10-game winning streak. Princeton is now 18-5 overall and 9-2 in the Ivy League while Brown fell to 10-13 this season and 3-8 in conference action. The Tigers finish the road trip at Yale Saturday. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
