
Women's Track and Field Finishes Day One of Indoor Heps with Two Ivy Champions

Full Schedule of Events Saturday – Sunday
Hanover, N.H. - The Princeton women's track and field team had a strong start throughout the first day of the 2023 Indoor Ivy League Heptagonal Championships, ending the day with two Tigers earning first-place, championship honors.
The competitiveness could be felt throughout the atmosphere of the Dartmouth, Leverone Field House as the top athletes throughout the Ivy League put their talents out on display for a fierce day one of competition.
The first years in the field portion of today's events ended the day with huge, Princeton performances.
In the Long Jump, first year Alexandra Kelly, was crowned an Ivy League champ thanks to her 5.95m leap. Kelly jumped this performance on her fifth attempt to secure the first-place victory.
Georgina Scoot also earned points for Princeton thanks to a 5.83m performance that landed her in fourth place.
Tessa Mudd also ended the day as an Ivy League champion with a first-place finish in the pole vault.
Mudd's impressive result of 4.17m was a meet record mark that provided the Tiger women their second first place finish of the day.
SJ Cohen and Ella Rubenshtein helped to earn more, Tiger points. Cohen took a fifth-place finish with a result of 3.92 m and Rubenshtein placed sixth with her result of 3.82 m.
Siniru Iheoma represented Princeton in the shot put and earned herself a second-place finish to earn points for the Tigers with an impressive 15.22m mark.
The Women's 3000m saw a competitive showing from the Ivy League distance runners. In a tight race until the final laps, Abby Loveys and India Weir both managed to finish within the top-five. Loveys finished in third place at 9:37.85 and Weir took fourth at 9:40.91
Loveys and Weir were the only Tigers entered in the event, and represented Princeton well with two, strong finishes.
Julia Jongejeugd earned a sixth-place finish and a new PR in the Women's Pentathlon, scoring 3259 total points. She finished the 60m hurdles in 9.82 seconds, the high jump with a mark of 1.57 m, the shot put with a mark of 11.64 m, the long jump with a distance of 5.21m, and the 800m in 2:41.28.
Day Two Qualifiers
In the 60m Hurdles, Arianna Smith and Lily Parris will compete in Sunday's finals. Smith finished with a mark of 8.50, to take second place to tie the all-time Princeton performance. Parris's mark of 8.64 earned her eight place and a spot in tomorrow's finals.
Arianna Smith will also represent the Tigers in the 400m after finishing in fourth at 56.36.
Maggie Liebisch and Lexi Allen will compete in the Mile race finals on Sunday. Liebich took a second-place finish with a 4:48.52 finish, and Lexi Allen placed fifth at 4:50.79.
Two Tigers will compete in the 60m finals on Sunday. Brianna Mponzi's 7.55 finish not only advances her to the finals, but sets the new, all-time Princeton performance. Olivia Hee will also toe the line for the finals, thanks to her 7.66 finish from Saturday's race.
In the Women's 1000m, Mena Scatchard and Morgan Monesmith qualified for the Day 2 finals. Scatchard took fifth place with a 2:52.66 finish, and Monesmith placed seventh, coming in at 2:53.60.
Three Tigers will advance to compete in the 200m finals. India Ingemi took fourth at 24.94, Brianna Mponzi took sixth at 25.02, and Adelaide Asante placed seventh at 25.06.
The Princeton women finished the day with 45.5 points as a team, and currently sit at second place with 5 of 20 events complete. The Tigers will look to crown more champions throught Sunday's events and continue to show their strength, unity, and depth as a team on Day 2.
