Ivy Madness Champions! Women's Basketball Punches Ticket to NCAA Tournament

PRINCETON, N.J. – The top-seeded Princeton University women's basketball team secured its 10th NCAA Tournament appearance Saturday evening inside Jadwin Gymnasium, overcoming an 11-point deficit and downing fourth-seeded Harvard in the final of the Ivy League Tournament, 54-48.

Princeton is now a four-time Ivy Madness Champion, and will be headed to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year under the guidance of Head Coach Carla Berube.

Ivy Tournament Most Outstanding Player and All-Tournament Team honoree Kaitlyn Chen led all scorers with 21 points and grabbed six rebounds, while fellow All-Tournament Team member Ellie Mitchell tallied her second double-double of the tournament with 10 points on 4-for-6 shooting and 15 rebounds. Julia Cunningham scored nine points and had four steals, and Grace Stone recorded a career-high five blocks along with a career-high six assists along with a career-high five blocks.

While the Tigers led 18-15 at the end of the first quarter, the Crimson battled back in the second quarter taking a 21-19 lead with 5:56 on the clock, and a 32-23 lead into halftime.

A pair of free throws with 4:08 remaining by Grace Stone sparked a 6-0 run, as the Tigers began to narrow the deficit and made it a 42-37 contest with 2:56 on the clock.

Princeton went into the fourth quarter down 44-37, but opened it with a layup by Mitchell and a three-pointer by Maggie Connolly and made it a two-point contest, 44-42, with 8:10 left to play. Two more Chen free throws tied it at 47-47 with 1:46 left to play, then a Mitchell layup put the Tigers ahead, 50-48, with 0:37 on the clock.

Mitchell's layup led a 7-0 run, on which the Tigers would close out the game with. Madison St. Rose drained a pair of free throws 0:05 left, and the Tigers held on for the 54-48 victory.
