Tigers Battle Pair of Top-25 Opponents Saturday in Texas
March 04, 2023 | Softball
Battling a pair of top-25 teams on the second of three days at Texas, the Princeton softball team fell 2-1 to No. 11 Texas and 8-3 to No. 24 Louisiana.
Against Texas, senior Alexis Laudenslager threw four innings and rookie Brielle Wright threw the final two with neither allowing a walk. Laudenslager allowed two runs on seven hits, striking out four, with the only runner reaching base during Wright's stint doing so on an error.
Four Tigers split the team's four hits. Texas took a 1-0 lead in the fist inning, using a Mia Scott triple and a Viviana Martinez sacrifice fly to score the run. Two hits and an error led to Texas's second run in the fourth inning.
Princeton got on the board in the sixth when Serena Starks reached on a leadoff walk and moved around on a stolen base and a pair of grounders with Sophia Marsalo picking up the RBI.
Against Louisiana, the Ragin' Cajuns took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on two singles and a ground ball, but Princeton tied it in the third. After a Starks base hit and an Allison Ha double, Julia Dumais brought Starks home with a base hit to make it a 1-1 game.
Louisiana took a 3-1 lead in the fourth, getting the two runs on a walk, two singles and a stolen base. The lead grew to 7-1 in the fifth after an error, two walks and a fielder's choice pushed across a run and put two on for Lauren Allred, who hit a three-run homer.Â
Princeton got a run back in the sixth, when Adrienne Chang followed a Dumais double with a base hit, but Louisiana restored the five-run lead with a walk and a Maddie Hayden double.Â
Princeton's final run came in the seventh when a walk, a hit batter and a fielder's choice moved Cate Bade to third for Dumais to pick up a sacrifice fly.
Starks, Dumais and Chang each had two hits in the game while Laudenslager, Molly Chambers and Meghan Harrington all saw time in the circle.
Princeton will close out its weekend in Texas with a game against Tennessee State at 11 a.m. ET.Â
