Four Tigers Through to Semis at EIWA Championships as Glory Earns NCAA Bid
March 04, 2023 | Wrestling
Patrick Glory, Quincy Monday, Nate Dugan and Luke Stout are all on to the semifinals, leading six Tigers who will compete Sunday on the second day of the EIWA Championships in Philadelphia.
With the EIWA allocated six bids at 125 pounds, Glory has clinched his fourth NCAA Championship bid. Princeton has as many as four more automatic NCAA bids still in play.
Marshall Keller and Ty Whalen stayed alive in the consolation brackets and will compete Sunday. The first session starts at 10:30 a.m.
Glory, at 125, and Monday, at 165, both defended their second seeds and will face third-seeded opponents, Glory against Penn's Ryan Miller and Monday against Columbia's Joshua Ogunsanya. A win in the semis would gain Monday his fourth NCAA Championship bid.
At 184, Dugan knocked off Hofstra's fourth-seeded Jacob Ferreira 8-3 in the quarters and will take on top-seeded Tate Samuelson of Lehigh in the semis. A win there would send the junior Dugan to the NCAAs for the first time.
At 197, Stout, seeded third, defended his seed and will face Cornell's second-seeded Jacob Cardenas in the semis. A win there would send Stout to the NCAAs for his second time in as many seasons with Princeton.
At 149, 14th-seeded Keller, who won four consolation matches a year ago to reach the third-place match and make the NCAAs for the first time, can't earn an automatic bid this year with the EIWA allocated only two spots at the weight. He'll take on Army West Point's fourth-seeded Trae McDaniel in the consolation quarters on Sunday.
At 157, rookie and 10th-seeded Ty Whalen needs to win three more matches to earn an automatic NCAA bid, and he'll start Sunday's portion of that path against Bucknell's 11th-seeded Nick Delp.
Princeton stands fifth of the 17 teams in the team standings at 53 points, with Cornell (82.5), Lehigh (68.5), Penn (67) and Columbia (66.5) in the top four spots.
