Men's Hockey Has Four Named All-Ivy
March 08, 2023 | Men's Ice Hockey
Four men's hockey players have been named All-Ivy as voted on by the ivy head coaches, the most Tigers to earn Ivy end-of-the-year honors since Princeton's 2017-18 ECAC championship team.
Liam Gorman and Ian Murphy were named second-team All-Ivy at forward, while defenseman Pito Walton and goaltender Ethan Pearson were named honorable mention All-Ivy.
"We have had a lot of players play key roles for us this season, I am thrilled for these four student-athletes to have receive this recognition for their work on the ice this season," said head coach Ron Fogarty. "Each had come through for us in big moments not only in Ivy games, but throughout the ECAC season and during our run in the ECAC Playoffs. They have been leaders in the locker room and on the ice, and our program is proud of their effort which has resulted in these honors."
For Murphy, this marks the second year in a row that he has earned All-Ivy honors after a first-team All-Ivy selection last season. Gorman, Walton and Pearson are each first-time honorees.
Junior forward Nick Seitz, already one of the 12 nominees for ECAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, was also named Academic All-Ivy.
Ian Murphy leads the Tigers in points (30), goals (15) and assists (15) during his junior season. He is 25th in the country in goals-per-game (0.52) and 34th in points-per-game (1.00) and his two hat tricks this season not only lead the ECAC but are tied for second-most by any player in the country.
Liam Gorman has set career highs this year in goals (12), assists (10) and points (22) during his senior season, ranking No. 2 on the team in power-lay goals (4) and tied for No. 1 in short-handed goals (2) -- his two SHGs this season tied for No. 6 in the country.
Pito Walton leads Princeton defensemen in goals (7), assists (14) and points (21) this season -- setting career highs in all three categories. He is fourth among Ivy defensemen -- and ninth in the ECAC -- in points.
Ethan Pearson started 21 games this season with an 11-9-0 record before missing the last six games with injury. He had posted a 2.71 GAA and a .903 save percentage before his injury, with four shutouts -- which is tied for second-most in a season by a Princeton goalie. In his seven Ivy starts, he was 4-3-0 with two shutouts, posting a 1.99 GAA and a .929 save percentage.
The Tigers are headed to Harvard this weekend for the ECAC Quarterfinals. The best-of-three series with the Crimson is set for March 10-12, with 7 p.m. faceoffs on Friday and Saturday. If neccessary, Sunday's Game Three is set for 4 p.m.
