Sarah Fillier and Claire Thompson will aim to help Canada to its third straight IIHF Women's World Championship.

Fillier, Thompson Selected to Canada's Roster for IIHF World Title Defense

Claire Thompson and Sarah Fillier have been selected to Canada's roster to help the 2023 IIHF Women's World Championship hosts defend their title as two-time reigning champions next month.
The tournament will run April 5-16 in Brampton, Ont., right in the home backyard for Fillier and Thompson, both from the Greater Toronto Area.
Both Tigers were part of Canada's 2021 IIHF World Championship team when the event was held in Calgary, Alb., and Fillier helped the Canadians defend the title last fall in Denmark. Thompson did was not on the 2022 team as she was beginning medical school at NYU, where she continues her studies. Both were also integral to Canada winning Olympic gold in 2022.
Blueliner Thompson finished her Princeton career in 2020 as the fifth-highest scoring defenseman in program history, helping the Tigers to their first ECAC Hockey tournament title and second consecutive NCAA tournament bid. Fillier, a forward and also a part of those 2019 and 2020 Tiger teams, enters her senior season tied for ninth in program history with 151 career points, fourth with 88 career assists, and 15th with 63 career goals.
Canada is in Group A at the event with Czechia, Japan, Switzerland and the U.S. Group play will run April 5-10. All five Group A teams will make the quarters on April 13 with the rest of the bracket running through April 16.
