April 01, 2023 | Men's Rowing - Lightweight
PRINCETON – The No. 1 Men's Lightweight Team picked up a 5.2-second victory over the Columbia Lions to claim the Campbell Cup on Lake Carnegie.
The Tigers' first varsity crossed the line at 5:41.7 in front of the Lions (5:46.9). The Tigers' second varsity also earned a victory (5:48.2) by 5.7 seconds while the third varsity collected a 5:58.6, 3.4 seconds ahead.
"We're happy to get wins with all three of our boats against the defending Eastern Sprints (Columbia 3V and 2V) and defending national champions Columbia 1V)," said Princeton head coach Marty Crotty. "Our three boats are working really well as a unit right now, but we have to stay healthy, keep training hard and keep getting better, because the season just getting started. In two weeks, we start a five-week road trip against some tough competition so that's what we're preparing for."
In the afternoon, The Tigers' 1V also collected a 5.7-second win over MIT (5:43.7) while Mercyhurst rounded out the field (5:53.4). Princeton's 2V corralled almost a 13-second decision (5:45.9) over MIT (5:58.2) while the 3V also won (6:02.3) over Penn (6:07.2) and MIT (6:21.0).
