Women's Hockey Team to Play Friendship Series in Belfast in January
April 12, 2023 | Women's Ice Hockey
The games will take place January 6 and 7 at SSE Arena in Belfast. The arena hosted the Princeton men's hockey team in 2019 as part of the Friendship Four event.
"We are so excited to travel to Belfast and showcase our game to international fans. This is a one-in-a-lifetime opportunity that most college hockey players never get to experience," Princeton coach Cara Morey said. "At Princeton, we believe in 'Education Through Athletics', and we are excited to learn the unique history and customs from the people of Belfast. We are also excited to play top level college hockey as we take on Providence. This is going to be a highlight for many players as they create memories that last a lifetime. We're grateful for the ECAC and Princeton University for helping facilitate this amazing experience."
Princeton and Providence have met 60 times since the series between the teams began in 1980, and the teams met most recently for a two-game series in December 2021 in Providence.
Princeton is set to return the scorers of 58 of its 81 goals from the 2022-23 season, led by rising senior Sarah Fillier, who will be pursuing her third straight IIHF World Championship title with Canada over the next week. Fillier led the Tigers with 19 goals and 18 assists for 37 points over the past season.
