Laudenslager Ks 11 as Softball Team Splits with Penn
April 02, 2023 | Softball
Princeton senior Alexis Laudenslager turned in another double-digit strikeout game in Sunday's series finale as the Tiger softball team split a doubleheader at Penn, bouncing back from a 6-3 loss in the opener to win the nightcap 3-1.
In the opener, Princeton took the lead in the first inning when an Adrienne Chang two-out base hit to pick up a leadoff double from Serena Starks, and the 1-0 Tiger lead stood until a four-run fourth inning for the Quakers on a walk and four hits.Â
Penn added a two-run Sarah Schneider homer in the sixth to make it 6-1, and a seventh-inning rally for Princeton came up just short. The Tigers reached three of the first four batters of the inning on a Caitlin Bish base hit, a Starks double that scored Bish, and an Allison Ha double that scored Starks to make it 6-3 before the Quakers ended the threat.
The second game stayed scoreless until the fourth inning, when Starks started the frame with a single and Grace Jackson brought her home four batters later with a base hit.Â
Penn tied the game in its half of the fourth with two errors, and the 1-1 tie stuck until the seventh inning when Princeton scored its last two runs. Jackson started the rally with a one-out walk and Cate Bade followed her with a double to give Princeton the lead. Sophia Marsalo picked Bade up on a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 3-1.
Laudenslager got the win in the circle in the nightcap, fanning 11 with two walks on four hits in what was her seventh double-digit strikeout game of the season and second of the weekend.
Princeton will host Lehigh for a single non-league game Wednesday before returning to Ivy League play with a three-game home series against Columbia Saturday and Sunday.
