Men’s Track and Field Splits Squad Between UVA and Wake Forest; Nicholas Bendtsen Sets New 5000m School Record

The Princeton men's track and field team represented on Friday, April 21st at the UVA Challenge and the Wake Forest Invitational. At both meets, the Tigers achieved some impressive results for the 2023 outdoor season. Notably, at the Wake Forest Invitational, Nicholas Bendtsen set the new school record in the 5000m, finishing with a personal best 13:35.15.
Bendtsen finished sixth overall in the event and will now surpass the previous Princeton record of 13:37.21 set by Kevin Berry '22.Charlottesville, Va.

Final Results
The Princeton men's track and field team represented on Friday, April 21st at the UVA Challenge and the Wake Forest Invitational. At both meets, the Tigers achieved some impressive results for the 2023 outdoor season. Notably, at the Wake Forest Invitational, Nicholas Bendtsen set the new school record in the 5000m, finishing with a personal best 13:35.15.
The Tigers had more noteworthy performances from Friday's invitational. In the men's 800m invitational section, Ethan Reese finished in eighth with a time of 1:49.44, while Kieran McDermott finished 10th with a time of 1:49.62.
In the men's 1500m invite, Duncan Miller finished ninth overall with a time of 3:40.61, which will now stand as fourth all-time for Princeton. Miller improves his previous personal best of 3:41.22 set at last weekends' Larry Ellis Invitational.
In 10,000m Jarrett Kirk and Matthew Farrell placed within the top ten finishers. Kirk took a second-place finish at 29:50.72 and Farrell came in tenth at 30:20.42.
In the men's 800m invite, Ethan Reese finished eighth with a time of 1:49.44, while Kieran McDermott finished 10th with a time of 1:49.62. In the other men's 800m section, Connor Chen finished fifth overall with a time of 1:51.55, while Jordan Kaplan finished in eighth at 1:51.75.
Cooper Austen and Jackson Shorten impressed in the in the men's 3000m steeplechase. Shorten finished 12th with a time of 9:11.17, while Austen finished 14th with a time of 9:15.10.
UVA Challenge
At the UVA Challenge, Ibrahim Ayorinde led the way for the Tigers, finishing third in the men's 100m prelims with a time of 10.41. He then went on to finish second in the final, clocking a season-best time of 10.37. Joey Gant also had a notable performance, finishing seventh in the prelims with a time of 10.49. In the final, he finished seventh with a time of 10.61.
In the men's 400m final, Anderson Dimon impressed, finishing in fourth with a time of 47.39. In the men's discus, Casey Helm led the way for Princeton with a third-place finish and a throw of 53.38m. Avery Shunneson finished sixth with a throw of 52.24m, and Joe Licata set a personal best with a throw of 49.67m, earning him a 10th-place finish.
Simen Guttormsen had a solid performance in the men's pole vault invite section, finishing in eighth with a height of 5.00m. Zach Jaramillo represented Princeton in the men's javelin. Jaramillo finished in seventh with a throw of 61.35m. Greg Foster finished with a solod performance in the men's triple jump, covering a distance of 14.75m.
