No. 3 Men's Lightweight Rowing Sweeps Races; Earns Wood-Hammond Trophy
April 22, 2023 | Men's Rowing - Lightweight
PHILADELPHIA – The No. 3 Princeton Men's Lightweight Rowing Team took care of the No. 5 Penn Quakers and No. 8 Georgetown Hoyas on the Schuylkill River to collect the Wood-Hammond Trophy on Saturday.
The Tigers' 1V crossed the finish line at 6:25.6, more than three seconds in front of Georgetown (6:28.8) and seven seconds ahead of Penn (6:32.8). Princeton swept the races with the 2V earning a five-second decision (6:23.0), the Varsity Four picking up a 15.8-second win (7:56.4) and the third varsity corralling a 3.2-second win (6:36.0).
"This race comes at a tricky time in our schedule—-we are preparing for the Sprints three weeks from now but have to also be ready for formidable opponents like Penn and Georgetown," said Princeton head coach Marty Crotty. "Add to that some foreign territory and some adverse conditions, all four boats handled themselves really well today given those circumstances."
