May 10, 2023 | Heavyweight Rowing
PRINCETON – The No. 6 Princeton Men's Heavyweight Rowing Team makes the trip to Lake Quinsigamond for the 2023 Eastern Sprints on May 14th.
All the races will take place on Sunday with heats going off from 8:45 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. Finals will take place between 1:10 p.m. to 6:10 p.m.
Princeton's varsity eight has had a stellar 2023 season, earning victories over No. 6 Harvard, No. 10 Brown, No. 12 Cornell, No. 14 Penn, No. 15 Navy, No. 16 Drexel, No. 19 Columbia, No. 20 Temple, No. 22 Georgetown. The boat's only loss was thrilling .9 second loss to No. 2 Yale.
Both victories over Harvard and Brown come after dropping decisions to those Ivy rivals in 2022.
Princeton's 1V was fourth at Eastern Sprints in 2022 while the 2V and 3V earned fifth place. The Tigers last medaled at the 2019 Sprints (2020 and 2021 races were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic) and last earned a gold with the 2V in 2018.
The Tigers' last Rowe Cup, awarded to the team that scores the highest combined points from the varsity, junior varsity and freshmen races, came in 2016. The 1V's last gold at Sprints was in 2006.
